Fitness Experts - 3 Tips That Will Help You Prevent The Negative Impacts of Sugar to Your Body and Your Weight Loss Process

Fitness and health experts, you are aware that throughout the fitness journey cutting sugar can be one the hardest things to get away from, as many studies suggest that sugar can be even 5 times more addictive than cocaine and the more we eat it, the more we want, and the more we think we “need” it. As a graduate student at Northwestern focusing on fitness, here are two articles I found where you can learn about what sugar actually is, and what it does to your body.

The first article, Addicts and Anecdotes” by Emily Beers on www.medium.com, talks about how Crossfit coaches are encouraging their members to remove sugar from their diets. The article mentions several studies and experiments that were conducted, and how metabolic health of the subjects improved significantly after only 10 days of no sugar. Members of the Crossfit gyms that have done this, also mentioned how their athletic performance improved and noticed positive changes in their digestion and sleep cycles.

The second article  “No Renuncies al Azucar y pierde peso” (Don’t Cut Sugar and Lose Weight) by fitness expert Sascha Barboza, widely known as Saschafitness. Talks about how you can still lose weight and stay healthy without having to cut sugar completely out of your diet. Fitness is a lifestyle and it is something that we should enjoy without restricting ourselves completely from the things we love.  She provides great tips on how to treat ourselves on occasion while  improving our body composition , and keeping our blood sugar levels on point.

As a graduate student at Northwestern studying fitness, here are 3 action items you should take to lead a healthy and balanced lifestyle:

  • Start moving now! It is perfectly okay to indulge on occasions, but being active is what is going to use the sugar in your body as energy as opposed to storing it as fat.

  • Challenge yourself! you would be surprised of what you are capable of, try to eliminate added sugars and processed foods and you will see changes in a matter of weeks.

  • Balance is key! learn how to eat the appropriate amount to lead a healthy and balanced diet that will help you control your cravings and keep your blood sugar levels on point.
